Langhe Nebbiolo “Podio” DOC

“Barolo is a magic word. Say it and the wine lover starts drooling and wagging his tail. Those stories of the misty hills of Piedmont, of the stately wines of grape nebbiolo, smelling of truffles and autumn, of tar and roses….

But oops, those prices!

Be wise, and store off the beaten path. Barolo and barbaresco are the big names, nebbiolo from the Langhe can come from all over the area. That sounds like regional wine, country wine. Is. In the sense that in the hands of a good winemaker the wine smells of grape nebbiolo and of the Piedmont of sagas and legends, but in a gentler version at a kinder price.

This one gives a taste of the famous bliss. Greater delight even than many a reputable barolo, some of which smack more bars of tar than bring lovely rose scent. This nebbiolo offers a bouquet of roses, fine fruit, yet that firm, stately flavor of barolo.

Vinification

The Podio vineyard first appears in 1467, when Count Damiano donated his land to his staff to grow grapes. In return, he demanded on the one hand that half of the grapes be owned by the castle, but above all he demanded that all grapes from the Podio vineyard be reserved for the count (“salvo et riservato vites Podii Serrae”). The Nebbiolo grapes are first picked by hand, after which the vinification starts. This wine is first aged for at least 6 months in wood, followed by a further 6 months in bottle aging.

Colour

The Langhe Nebbiolo Podio from Tenuta Carretta has an intense ruby red color.

Odor

The “Podio” has hints of dry flowers, fruit & chocolate.

Taste impression

This wine is elegant and balanced, with soft tannins. The taste is round and full of dark fruits such as blackberries and currants.

Culinary advice

The fruity notes and tannins of this wine offer nice options when paired with dishes with truffles, meats and various medium-aged cheeses.
