Finocchi Viticoltori

About the winery

Finocchi Viticoltori is a centuries-old family business that has been passionately producing wine since 1905. Based in Staffolo, in the beautiful region of Le Marche, brothers Marco and Maurizio Finocchi strive to continue their family's rich tradition. Their expertise lies mainly in making high-quality white wines, with the Verdicchio grape as their signature variety. At Devinita, we offer a selection of their best wines, including the Verdicchio Dei Castelli Di Jesi and the Incrocio Bruni 54, which reflect the craftsmanship and dedication of Finocchi Viticoltori.

THE FAMILY

First generation

Since 1905, the Finocchi family has been closely associated with the art of winemaking. The story begins with Marino Finocchi (pictured), who at the time began cultivating vineyards on land around Staffolo. During this time, a cellar was built using shared resources, where he made his own grapes into wine. His son, Enrico, soon became fascinated by this activity and grew to become one of the most skilled winemakers in the region. His talent was so remarkable that he even received an offer for a prestigious position at the Vatican. After his untimely death in 1946, his two sons, Giuseppe and Franco, were entrusted with continuing this honorable legacy at a young age. Despite the challenges, the family managed to continue the wine tradition, with the support of their mother Isolina and uncle Armando.

SALMAGINA

Growth

An essential milestone in the history of the Finocchi family was the purchase of their first piece of land in the Salmagina district in 1966. This area is still known as one of the leading locations for growing Verdicchio grapes. Following this purchase, new Verdicchio vineyards were established. Toward the end of the 1970s, as part of a modernization project for the old farmhouse, the historic cellar was expanded. This marked the beginning of a new strategic direction, aimed at both the qualitative and quantitative development of production. A special event was the purchase of a small plot of land called "Filellu" in 1999. This farm had always been in use, first through sharecropping and later as a rental location. Although Finocchi has traditionally been known as a producer of white wines, the first red grape vines were planted in the "Filellu" vineyard.

TRADITION & INNOVATION

The present

The invaluable experience, the ancient knowledge of farming and the boundless passion for carefully maintaining the vineyards, handed down from Giuseppe and Franco, were inevitably passed on to Marco and later to his younger brother Maurizio. This has led to the continuation of the family business. Recently, Marco and Maurizio built a new wine cellar in the Salmagina district, equipped with modern technologies to meet today's high quality standards while maintaining traditional wine production. A careful choice of location was made with this important investment, concentrating all production activities in a single complex. As a result, all other wineries have been dismantled, with only the historic outlet retained.
